The Howe Harlequins welcomed Broughton Women to the Duffus Park on Sunday as the Howe Of Fife celebrated a day of inclusive rugby. Howe Knights played The mixed ability Clan, Dundee Dragons played an exhibition match of wheelchair rugby and at 2pm, the Quins kicked off their game in front of the Howe faithful.

Howe decided to buck their trend of starting slowly scoring their first try of the day within 5 mins of kick off. A probing kick from Pam Gibson over the Broughton try line sent Stephanie Craig over for her first this season.

Broughton answered back immediately with their first of the day and the Duffus crowd then knew they were going to see a great game.

A strong run from Emilia Kristiansson resulted in her first for the day and not to be outdone, Katie Williams scored Howe’s third after an opportune kick on from Debutante Lily Thompson. Phoebe Saunders converted the first of that pair, Howe 17, Broughton 5 at Half Time.

Broughton started the the second half strongly and eventually scored their second. This pushed the Quins on and with some strong forward work from the Howe they powered their way back up into the Broughton twenty two. After a couple of crash balls, the backs worked their passing magic earning Emma Mackinnon a well deserved try converted again by Phoebe Saunders.

Broughton came back with their third with a strong showing from an in form Fullback but the last word was given to the Quins in form Fullback with Emilia punching through to score her second.

Howe Harlequins 29, Broughton 15 FT.

The Howe showed strength in their forwards with Emma Wood leading from the front as usual, great defence shored up by Katie Williams and Emilia Kristiansson and a never give up attitude, especially from Kirsty Wilson with her try saving tackle right at the end of the game.

A big thank you goes out to Broughton, always a tough team to play, always a hard hitting team to play but always a fair team to play. We wish them well for the rest of the season.

Our next game is our last one at home against Gairoch next Sunday. We hope to see you there.
