The Howe Harlequins welcomed Garioch Women to Duffus Park on Sunday on their last home game of the current season. A full stand of sponsors and Howe faithful welcomed the teams onto the pitch and especially Phoebe Saunders on the occasion of her 50th appearance for the Quins. Our back row powerhouse and laser eye guided kicker is the first Quin to reach the magic 50. We are proud of and eternally grateful for her commitment and and love for this team.

The game was expected to be a hard one and Garioch started how they were going to continue by bursting through the Howe defensive line to put three scores past the Quins in the first half of the match. When Howe got their hands on the ball they looked dangerous with probing kicks from Pam Gibson and ferocious hand offs from Emilia Kristiansson but small mistakes cost Howe badly. Howe’s set piece worked well and it would be fair to say their scrum was dominant but with frustrations rising, Adelle Ferrie showed the strength and pace that she used all last season to burst through a couple of tackles and score just before half time. Phoebe Saunders converted. Howe 7, Garioch 17 HT.

With the rain coming down, the teams headed for the changing rooms for the half time chats. Quins came out feeling that the tide was about to change and with some new faces in the back line, they were ready! Unfortunately so were Garioch! Every trick Howe had up their sleeve, Gairoch had an answer. After the rest of the tries went over, the game ended at Howe 7 - Garioch 48.

A humbling day at the office for the Quins but a great opportunity to try out a totally brand new back line which showed potential for the future. Notable performances from Pam Gibson, Liana Mitchell, Stephanie Craig and the Captain, Emma Wood. Adelle Ferrie was back to her old self again being named Howe’s Woman of the match alongside the aforementioned Emilia Kristiansson. Garioch Named Howe’s Megan Potter as their player of the game too.

With the Quins in a development season, their future is looking better every week with the addition to the squad of Eve Irving and Niamh Feighan. Both of whom came on for their first appearances in a Quins shirt and added significant pace and physicality to the Howe back line. Welcome girls, its great to have you with us!

Next week we travel to league leaders Oban for a greatly anticipated fixture.
